There are numerous companies that provide customers in Florida and elsewhere with the ability to stream television shows and movies on a variety of devices. Prior to making a title available to consumers, a company might seek to purchase the rights to stream the title exclusively. The popular streaming company Netflix has accused a media company of breach of contract after several exclusive titles were made available through other outlets.
According to reports, Netflix originally reached an agreement with the media company Relativity for exclusive streaming rights for several movies. However, Netflix asserts that these movies were eventually made available through competing streaming services. Relativity asserts that it began to experience monetary issues and lost the rights to several movies through foreclosure.
Netflix also claims that Relativity failed to be upfront with the streaming service about these issues. Although the media company is pursuing protection from creditors via bankruptcy, Netflix has reportedly petitioned the court for a refund of just under $10 million in fees associated with the agreement. The streaming company is also pursuing additional restitution for other titles that it purchased the rights to that Relativity reportedly failed to provide.
Breach of contract disputes of this nature can be exceedingly complex matters. Those who are subjected to similar issues could choose to speak with an experienced attorney for advice on the best course of action with which to proceed. An attorney in Florida can help a client gain a better understanding of the available options for legal recourse and assist in pursuing the full amount of restitution deserved through the necessary channels.
